I would not think that it would have been more than six to eight knots at it's best point of sailing (quartering wind). That is the rate at which Civil War period sailing warships moved when battle stations were set, and all but the major sails were set. Since the "cordita" was almost half as wde as it was long, and nomally carried a heavy cargo for the size of the vessel, the rate of advance would have beenmuch slower than a more streamlined ship. Since such ships were only scheduled for one round trip from Italy to Egypt every year because of the seasonal weather conditions in the Mediterranean sped was not a major factor.
What do you think the average speed would be for the Corbita? Assuming fair winds, etc. Say compared to a Nef or Cog?
